SOS – HGIC wins the maiden Mathleticus Math Tournament

The Academic Talent Development Program (ATDP) through the Ghana Olympiad Academy launched its latest initiative – Mathleticus Math Tournament (MMT), for lovers of Maths who are 16 years and below. This tournament helps schools promote excellence in math, raise student test scores, increase student self-esteem, develop problem-solving skills, and hone cooperative skills in a competitive environment. It is also designed to allow outstanding mathematics students to meet and compete with each other and promote public interest in Mathematics.

The Mathleticus Tournament was held on Saturday, November 26, at the GNAT hall, Accra. About 200 students from 20 schools competed in the high-energy event. In the end, 50 students from 12 schools were able to make it to the finals. David Blankson – Hermans, Mathlete 33, from SOS – HGIC emerged as the overall champion of this tournament. Conrad Nunyuie Atsu Akaba, Mathlete 36 from SOS – HGIC, won second place.

Oware Mitchel from Angels’ Ridge School, Gli Emelda Enam Esi (Burma Camp JHS), Agbleke Thelma Dzifa (M/Crig JHS), Aiden Isaac Ato Mills (Angels’ Ridge School) make up the remaining gold medalists.

Schools that participated in the Mathleticus Math Tournament include Life International School, Angels’ Ridge School, International Community School, Services JHS, First Baptist JHS among others.


In similar fashion, the first Ghana STEM Olympiad was held online in partnership with GH Scientific. 300 students from 25 schools across the country took part in the online competition that focused on Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Some of the schools that participated include Angels’ Ridge school, Life International School, Ghana Christian International High. M/A Crig JHS, Ghana International School among others.

Kakhani Jahnavi, a Grade 10 student from DPS International was adjudged the overall best student. All the medalists qualify to represent Ghana at the Copernicus Global Science Olympiad.
